If you could map your college journey through your search history, what would it say? From “What is campus life really like?” to “Will I find my place?” the questions are real and so are the answers.
Using the “Google board” trend, Sarah, a first-year student at ɬ, shares what life at ɬ is really like.
In this Q&A, she offers an honest look at how community, faith and fun shape the college experience.
Meet Sarah:
Sarah Jenkins is a first-year pre-health major and Paragon Scholar at ɬ. She answers some of the most common questions students have about ɬ.
Q: What is the biggest myth about ɬ?
A: Probably that you have to be religious to come here. You don’t need to have a religious affiliation to come to ɬ, there are a lot of people here that aren't religious. But it is a really good way to find your place in religion. Or just to find your place.
Q: Is it weird if I don't know anyone before coming to ɬ?
A: Absolutely not! You're going to meet so many people. You can come in completely blind and you'll probably make friends within the first ten minutes.
Q: What makes the community unique?
A: We have a very small community. In some ways that may be seen as, “I'm not going to meet a lot of people.” No, you're going to meet a lot of people and you're going to know everyone on campus. You're going to walk around and be like, “Oh my gosh, I know them!”
Q: Be honest, is ɬ actually fun?
A: Yes! Within the second week of coming here, we all went to a trampoline park just to have fun. It is fun. It is. Trust me. So much fun!
Q: Okay, is ɬ actually worth it?
A: I think so. Between the social activity and the classroom time, you get so much attention from professors and it really is such a wonderful community! Once a week we go to Chapel, which I think is refreshing. There are also a lot of different clubs and groups that you can be part of–so yes, it's worth it. Trust me.
Q: How has ɬ helped me to achieve my goals?
A: I'm still working on my goals, but ɬ has helped me find them! I have grown so much closer to the Lord being here. Academic wise, I have fallen in love with my career choice and I feel much more confident going into nursing because of ɬ.
Q: Is ɬ really a Christian university?
A: I would say it is. But I'd also say, you don't have to be a Christian to come here. You're not forced into anything you don't want to do. It’s ok to have different religions, you’ll definitely be accepted here. ɬ doesn’t push you towards any one ideology; it teaches you about different ideologies, which I think is really cool.
Q: What is the deal with the squirrels?
A: Guys, we love the squirrels. Me and my friends call them Sandy cheeks.
Bye! Bye!
